The Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC) launched a large-scale annual project named “HONG KONG FILM NEW ACTION” in 2008, aiming to promote Hong Kong films and its servicing sectors so as to enhance the sustainable development of the Hong Kong film industry. To cater for the development needs of the film industry, the FDC, in each year, organises a series of promotional activities with a different theme, including:
2009 Hong Kong Film New Action – Business Matching & Promotional Sessions
The first of the annual thematic projects of ‘Hong Kong Film New Action’ focused on the promotion of the New Generation Directors. More than 30 directors participated in the project visited the Mainland, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia to network with the film investors, producers and distributors of the respective regions. During FILMART 2009, business matching and promotional sessions and networking luncheons were arranged to promote the New Generation Directors, to further develop the Mainland market, as well as to revitalise the Hong Kong film markets in Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan.
2010 Hong Kong 3D Film New Action
During FILMART 2010, exhibitions, forums, workshops, luncheons and seminars were held to share experience with top-grade overseas 3D special effect technicians, and to showcase to the world Hong Kong’s technique and achievement in 3D film production, with the purpose of attracting overseas investors to use the one-stop film production services of Hong Kong and to establish long-term collaboration relationships with local practitioners, and to make Hong Kong a 3D film production hub in the Asian region. The FDC and the representatives of the industry also attended the ‘Hong Kong & Mainland Film Cooperation Business Matching’ and the ‘Beijing-Hong Kong Film Business Matching Event cum Hong Kong Post Production Industry Exhibition’.
2011 Beyond Box Office
A series of conferences and networking activities were organised during FILMART 2011, focusing on ancillary revenues of film industry and cross media collaboration. The events served as a discussion platform for the local, Mainland and overseas stakeholders to exchange views on film distribution, cross media collaboration and ancillary products, etc., and a channel to explore business opportunities among cross media groups. Furthermore, conferences were held to look at the marketability of Hong Kong films and Chinese language films, and the prospect of the film market in China.
2012 Power of Media Convergence
During FILMART 2012, by organising conferences, pitching sessions and networking luncheons and the display of exhibition booths, the event provided a platform for discussion on the collaboration and convergence among film industry, on-line media and other new media, aiming to facilitate the Hong Kong film industry to explore business opportunities in addition to the traditional market and to enhance multi-dimensional development of the film industry. A delegation visit to Taiwan was organised to foster relationships between the film personnel and other media operators of the two regions, and to promote the New Generation Producers of Hong Kong.
2013 Idea – Action – Your NEXT
With a series of seminars, workshop and project pitching activities during FILMART 2013, the event provided the new generation filmmakers with training in film project development and pitching, and knowledge on film financing, market promotion and film administration. Symposiums were also held at Hong Kong Baptist University where veteran film personnel shared with those who pursued the paths to directors and producers basic knowledge of film production and operation of the industry.
2014 4K Movie Power
Through a series of training, promotional and networking activities during FILMART 2014, the event publicised Hong Kong’s 4K film production/post-production technologies and digital movie delivery service. It also enriched local film industry practitioners' knowledge in 4K filmmaking and strengthened the training for post-production professionals
2015 First Feature Film Initiative (FFFI)
During FILMART 2015, publicity activities including business matching sessions, press conferences, briefing sessions were organised to introduce to local and overseas investors and buyers the three films produced by the winning teams of the 1st FFFI and to officially announce the enrollment of the 2nd FFFI.
2016 Film Facilitation and Production Services in the Pearl River Delta Region
Through a series of seminars and networking activities, the event aimed at publicising the competitive edges of the film facilitation and production services in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. A press conference was also held to officially announce the launch of the 3rd First Feature Film Initiative and its Facebook fanpage.
2017 Action Power: Stunt & Vfx Workshop
Interactive workshops and seminars were organised to showcase to the film practitioners in the Belt & Road countries and regions Hong Kong’s expertise in action stunts and digital special visual effects.
2018 Nova Power
To enhance and promote the new generations of two creative industries through cross-sector collaboration between the film industry and the fashion design industry.
2019 Magic Touch of Film Music
To enhance and promote Hong Kong film scoring industry through introducing Hong Kong’s outstanding film composers and their music.
