Great Potential in 3D Film Development. Strengthen the Position of Hong Kong Film Post Production Industry
The 3D frenzy has swept the world recently and given a strong impact on the global movie industry. Recently, a number of Hong Kong filmmakers have used 3D effects in their films. Besides, some overseas film producers have used the services offered by Hong Kong’s post production companies for their 3D works.
To further strengthen the position of “Asia’s 3D technology hub”, Hong Kong Film Development Council and Hong Kong Association of Motion Picture Post Production Professionals (AMP4), with Hong Kong Productivity Council as the co-organizer, are organizing a series of activities during “FILMART 2010” to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 22 – 25 March to create a platform to showcase the advanced technology of 3D filmmaking, and foster technological exchanges between local and overseas participants.
To introduce the event details, some special guests are invited to share the experiences and had the unveiling ceremony at the press conference today, the guests include Mr. Peter Lam Kin Ngok (Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Film Development Council), Mr. Wellington Fung Wing (Secretary-General of Hong Kong Film Development Council), Mr. Percy Fung (Chairman of AMP4), Mr. Eddie Tsoi (Organizing Committee Member of AMP4), Director Lam Wah Chuen and Director Casey Chan. Some of the equipments used for producing 3D movies and 3D movie “China Idol Boys”, the first Chinese-language 3D stereoscopic film set in real people and scenes were also displayed at the press conference. Moreover, Director Casey Chan would also announce the details for a new 3D movie.
Sharing the “Avatar” Experience
With the theme of “Hong Kong 3D Film New Action”, a series of activities including “Hong Kong 3D Film New Action Pavilion”, “Asia Visual Effects & Digital Film Making Summit 2010”, “3D Movie Workshop”, “Motion Picture Post Production Industry Networking Luncheon” and “3D Movie Technology Seminar” etc.
Apart from inviting locally-renowned movie producers including Director Lam Wah Chuen, Director Andrew Lau, Ms. Nansun Shi, Director Siuming Tsui and Mr. John Sham to share their 3D movie production experiences and technology; well-known and enriched international filmmakers from Hollywood, France, Mainland China, the Philippines, and Canada are also invited to share their experiences in 3D filmmaking. Mr. Chuck Comisky and Mr. Craig Tanner, the 3D post-production wizards of the awarded blockbuster “Avatar”, and Ah Gan (Liu Xiao Guang), renowned movie director in Mainland China, and Mr. Pierre Buffin, who founded BUF Compagnie in France, will attend the “3D Movie Workshop, Production and Post-production” and the “3D Movie Technology Seminar” on 24 March 2010 to share their experiences in producing their masterpieces.
In addition, the sophisticated 3D production technology and instruments used in the contemporary local movie industry will be presented to visitors, and participants of the “Hong Kong 3D Film New Action Pavilion” and the “3D Movie Workshop, Production and Post-production” will be offered an invaluable chance to experience the making of 3D stereoscopic movie production.
Mr. Percy Fung concluded that the post production of filmmaking in Hong Kong mainly includes sound post, film lab, visual effects and digital cinema, with the advanced technology of film post-production in Hong Kong, there is a great potential in 3D film production market for Hong Kong film industry. AMP4 expected that the “Hong Kong 3D Film New Action” campaign and the derived activities can further enhance Hong Kong’s position as a leading Asian movie post-production and 3D movie production hub; it is also expected that the market potential of the local movie industry can be realized and movie production dealings among local and international filmmakers be reached in the “Motion Picture Post Production Industry Networking Luncheon” on 24 March 2010.
