At its meeting on 15 March 2013, the Film Development Council (FDC) revised the scope of the "Sponsorship for Local Films Nominated to Participate in Film Festivals or Film Financing Forums Scheme" by taking away film financing forums from the scheme and including a number of internationally renowned and influential Chinese language film festivals held outside the territory of Hong Kong. The changes to the scheme, which took immediate effect, are summarized as follows:
(1) Inclusion of the competition section of Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, China Huabiao Film Awards, Changchun Film Festival and Beijing International Film Festival under Tier II sponsorship, while participation in the non-competition section of these film festivals will not be sponsored;
(2) To raise the maximum sponsorship for a film from $600,000 to $1,000,000 if it is selected as one of the five finalists of the Foreign Language Film category of the Academy Awards; and
(3) To revise the title of the scheme to read "Sponsorship for Local Films Nominated to Participate in Film Festivals Overseas".
Detailed information about the respective tiers of sponsorship is set out in the revised application guidelines. The revised guidelines and application form have been uploaded onto the FDC website at www.fdc.gov.hk/en/ofrp. They can be obtained at the Secretariat of the FDC on 40/F Revenue Tower, Wan Chai.
